The European Commission Thursday said it has not received a new offer from Lufthansa to clear up competition concerns over its planned takeover of Austrian Airlines AG (AUA.VI).

The commission's clarification comes after an Austrian press report Thursday stating that Lufthansa has submitted a better offer to the commission to clear up remaining competition hurdles.

Last week, the commission said that unless the German airline provided the commission with a revised offer very quickly, the antitrust regulator would be unable to clear the deal by the end-July deadline set by Lufthansa for getting regulatory clearance.
