Zesty Meyers of R 20th Century Design to Lead the Discussion At the
Design Breakfast Roundtable Friday, December 7 at 9:30am at the
Design Miami Media Lounge NEW YORK, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- AXA Art,
the world's premiere art insurance specialist, announced today its
co-presentation, together with Art & Antiques Magazine, of the
Design Breakfast Roundtable, taking place Friday, December 7th at
9:30am at the Design Miami Media Lounge in the Wynwood Design
District. The panel discussion will focus on current trends in the
exploding contemporary art market and how they influence the market
for mid-century modern and contemporary design. Zesty Meyers,
co-principal of R 20th Century Design in NYC and an expert in the
field, will spearhead the discussion. Special emphasis will be
placed on the work of Danish designer Poul Kjaerholm and Brazilian
architect Oscar Niemeyer. Panelists include noted journalist Aric
Chen and architect Michael Sheridan. Art & Antiques
Editor-in-Chief Barbara Tapp will discuss the magazine's
recognition of 20th century design as an important art development.
Vivian Ebersman, Director of Art Expertise for AXA Art, will
moderate. Conceived by Christiane Fischer, CEO of AXA Art USA, the
Design Breakfast Roundtable offers a forum for intimate and direct
access to the design world. "We're happy to be co-hosting this
event with Art & Antiques Magazine. It's a special occasion for
our clients to absorb the expertise of Mr. Meyers, Mr. Chen and Mr.
Sheridan. As the art market changes, so does the art of collecting.
We want to offer our clients resources to help guide them in making
the best possible choices for their collections." Co-hosts AXA Art
and Art & Antiques Magazine have chosen an impressive panel to
examine what Mr. Meyers calls the "co-existence" of the art and
design markets. Aric Chen is a contributing writer to such
publications as Surface, I.D., The New York Times, Elle Decor, and
Metropolis. He is currently at work on a survey of four Brazilian
design masters that includes Niemeyer. Michael Sheridan recently
authored The Furniture of Poul Kjaerholm: Catalogue Raisonne
(Gregory R. Miller & Co., 2007). He is the curator of the
upcoming "Structures and Surfaces" exhibition opening at Sean Kelly
Gallery and R Gallery in December, the most important collection of
Kjaerholm ever assembled. According to Mr. Meyers, who has been
lauded for his dedication to the mid-century modern movement,
"Oscar Niemeyer is an architect who designed interior pieces based
largely on his architectural forms. Poul Kjaerholm proclaimed
himself an 'interior architect.' Together they are a holistic
representation of truly great post-war design. It is fantastic to
see AXA Art taking the initiative to fortify this burgeoning
community by partnering with media organizations like Art &
Antiques and inviting galleries such as mine to help create a
one-of-a-kind opportunity for their clients to learn from some of
the leading voices on the intersection of these markets." The
Design Miami Media Lounge is located at The Loft, 3627 NE 1stCourt,
in the Wynwood Design District. About R 20th Century Design R 20th
