SRA subsidiary to Deploy MSS Surveillance System FAIRFAX, Va., July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Era a.s., a subsidiary of SRA International, Inc. (NYSE:SRX), today announced it has been selected by NAV Portugal to deliver a wide area multilateration (WAM) and ADS-B system for the central group of islands in the Azores. Era's solution will utilize its MSS multilateration and ADS-B system to provide NAV Portugal with highly accurate, reliable and redundant surveillance. Coverage from the solution will ensure safe and efficient coverage of the approach, departure and go-around zones of Portugal's Horta airport and will extend to over 100 nautical miles in most directions, with accuracy sufficient to enable both en-route and approach separation services. "NAV Portugal required a robust and durable solution, able to cope with the marine environment and island landscape," said Russell Hulstrom, Era's vice president of global sales and marketing. "Each MSS module is built to IP67 standards, ensuring ingress protection against salt water, wind, sand and other contaminants. Additionally, the proposed solution places multilateration and ADS-B receivers on several islands in the archipelago, and will utilize Era's proven expertise in wide area systems deployment -- using satellite synchronization technology to establish a large area of high-precision surveillance over vast areas of ocean." Era has been recently chosen for several next-generation wide area surveillance solutions, with current installations underway in Fiji, Namibia and Thailand "This is an important project for us, and we needed to know that we were not going to be learning ground for new technology," said a spokesman for NAV Portugal. "Era's solution for WAM deployments was a key factor in the selection of MSS for this particular task." Acquired by SRA in July 2008, Era a.s. provides surveillance technologies for the air traffic management, airport operations, military and security markets.
