YAOUNDE, Cameroon--The Netherlands imported 71.2% of the 180,075
metric tons of cocoa beans Cameroon exported in the just-closed
2011-2012 season, according to data released Wednesday by
Cameroon's industries.
This was down from 77.2% the previous season (August-July),
according to the data released by the National Cocoa and Coffee
Board.
"This is explained by the presence in Cameroon of
representatives or negotiators of Dutch companies like: Cargill
Inc, ADM (Acher Daniels Midland Co.) and Gerkens," said the
report.
Of the 18 countries importing Cemeroon cocoa Germany was the
next biggest importer taking almost 7%.
Cameroon also exported cocoa beans in the last season to China,
Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand as well as Morocco and Egypt among
others. But the quantities of cocoa beans exported to these
countries weren't disclosed.
Cameroon's cocoa output for the season dropped to 210,034 tons
from a record 240,000 tons produced in the previous year, according
to government and industrial statistics.
