Guggenheim Partners said it hired five senior bankers from
Barclays (BCS), including Senior Managing Director Andrew Taussig,
to boost its coverage of the retail, apparel and restaurant
industries.
The group also includes Ryan Mash, the former head of retail
M&A at Barclays, Senior Managing Director Spencer Hart, and
Managing Directors Matthew Pilla and Ken Harada.
Guggenheim, run by Los Angeles Dodgers' controlling owner Mark
Walter and former Bear Stearns Cos. Chief Executive Alan Schwartz,
has been on a hiring spree lately.
Last week it named Glenn Schiffman a senior managing director
focused on advising media clients. Mr. Schiffman, who is the former
head of investment banking and chief executive of Nomura Securities
North America and an ex-Lehman Brothers banker, joined Guggenheim
from The Raine Group.
Earlier this month, Guggenheim named Michael Henkin as senior
managing director and co-head of its restructuring group. Mr.
Henkin joined after 14 years at Jefferies & Co. Inc.
In recent years, Guggenheim has made other high-profile hires,
including former Apollo Global Management Chief Operating Officer
Henry Silverman and former Yahoo! interim Chief Executive Ross
Levinsohn.
Last month, Guggenheim named Mr. Silverman its global head of
real estate and infrastructure investments. Earlier this year, Mr.
Levinsohn was named the CEO of Guggenheim Digital Media, which will
invest in new media companies.
Last year, Mr. Walter and Guggenheim Baseball Management led a
$2 billion deal to acquire the Dodgers.
Mr. Taussig, who left Barclays in February, previously founded
the retail banking group at a predecessor to Credit Suisse. His
client list includes CVS Caremark Corp. (CVS), David's Bridal,
Dollar General Corp. (DG), Home Depot (HD), and J.C. Penney Co.
Inc. (JCP), Guggenheim said.
