Continuing to support its local communities, Ingram Micro Inc.
(NYSE: IM), the world's largest wholesale technology distributor,
has donated more than $18,000 worth of technology equipment to the
Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area (BGCSCA), located in
San Clemente, Calif. In conjunction with Microsoft, Woodcrafters
Intl. Inc. and Jeff Peters Memorial, the current computer room was
completely transformed to a state-of-the-art digital learning lab
to serve youth in South Orange County. A grand opening celebration
was held at the Boys & Girls Club December 14 to unveil the new
center.
A long-time supporter of the Boys & Girls Club, Ingram Micro
provided new workstations, monitors, digital TV displays and
printers to their technology center. The technology center provides
students with access to curriculum that advances their computer
literacy skills and also bridges the gap for kids who don't have
access to a cell phone, computer or an Internet connection at home.
Through the center, children also use the computers to communicate
with their teachers, check their grades and assignments and
write/print school reports. The Boys & Girls Club technology
centers also have proprietary Microsoft software and Success
Makers, a math and reading program to help the education staff to
track the academic progress of the Boys & Girls Club
members.
"Ingram Micro is a proud supporter of the organizations that
serve our communities and we are very happy to be able to support
the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area with this
technology donation," said Justin Scopaz, vice president and
general manager, Data Capture / Point-of-Sale and Physical Security
business units, Ingram Micro North America and board member of
BGCSCA. "Technology is integral to learning and this organization
serves up to 300 children per day. They are making a huge impact on
these kids' lives and we are happy to be able to support such a
worthwhile organization."
"This project was inspired by our Club's 2012 vision of
expanding our focus towards education," said Andy Brosche, program
director/director of Operations for BGCSCA. "Thanks to Ingram Micro
and all our supporters, we were able to come one step closer to
that vision. Our equipment was very limited and most of it was more
than 10 years old. Today, we now have a state-of-the-art digital
learning lab. We are very grateful."
