RCPE’s achievements include completing 2016-2018 with zero
Federal Railroad Administration-reportable employee injuries,
investing more than $80 million in infrastructure, growing revenues
20 percent since 2015 and attracting more than $300 million in new
customer investments along the rail line.
“This is well deserved recognition for the railroad’s 175
employees,” says Michael Miller, G&W’s president, North
America. “RCPE’s success has been a true public-private partnership
among the railroad, customers and government to invest and grow
together. We committed to investing and improving service levels,
and customers committed to growing their business with us. State
and federal grants helped the railroad increase its capacity and
upgrade the line, which were key to attracting new investment in
the region.”
The 670-mile freight line runs from Tracy, Minn., to Rapid City,
S.D., passing through Brookings, Huron, Miller, Highmore, Pierre
and Wall, S.D., with branches from Redfield to Mansfield, S.D., as
well as from Rapid City to both Colony, Wyo., and Chadron, Neb.
Commodities hauled include grain, bentonite clay, cement, ethanol
and fertilizer.
The railroad began operations June 1, 2014, following RCPE’s
purchase of the west end of the former Dakota, Minnesota &
Eastern rail line from Canadian Pacific.
