Gateway Launches Next-Generation Business Desktop Line E-6300 PC is
First Business Model Based on Quiet-and-Cool 'BTX' Chassis IRVINE,
Calif., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The loud whirring of
office desktop PCs could soon be replaced by the sounds of silence,
thanks to the launch today of Gateway's next-generation E-Series
desktop line. (Logo:

businesses, schools and government agencies, the newest Gateway(R)
E-Series PCs not only feature the latest Intel chipsets and
manageability features, but also offer a model based on BTX
(Balanced Technology Extended) -- a next-generation chassis that
uses larger, quieter cooling fans and provides ample headroom for
today's faster- and hotter- running processors and other internal
components. Gateway professional customers benefit from BTX by
having a cooler PC more resistant to the component breakdowns
caused by excessive heat. In addition, many customers will now be
able to rethink how they deploy desktops in traditionally quiet
areas, such as lobbies, libraries, medical labs and classrooms.
"Not only are PCs using hotter processors, but many systems also
have dedicated graphics cards and multiple cooling fans. This
growth in performance and power consumption has led to greater
complexity, more noise and more frequent component failures," said
Roger Kay, vice president of client computing at IDC. "Gateway,
which has done pioneering work on the BTX chassis, has been able to
stay on the performance-growth curve with a cooler, quieter
desktop." Gateway is introducing three new models in the E-Series
desktop family: the E-2300, E-4300 and E-6300. All three offer
manageability features that professional customers demand, such as
configure-to-order, tool-less chassis, 12-month-plus lifecycles and
preloaded Gateway Client Manager 8.1 software (based on LANDesk
technology). The Gateway E-2300 and E-4300 PCs are available today,
while the Gateway E-6300 model -- featuring the BTX chassis --
ships in one week. Gateway E-6300: High-Performance at a
Competitive Price Every component in the Gateway E-6300, a
high-performance business desktop, has been optimized for speed and
power -- all at a price just slightly more than Gateway's midrange
E-4300 desktop. The E-6300 features an Intel 915G chipset (Intel
Pentium 4 HT processor(4) and 800 MHz Front Side Bus), up to 4GB of
DDR2 400 MHz memory and 7200 rpm serial ATA hard drives scaling up
to 250 GB(1). For multi-media tasks, the E-6300 offers the
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with 128 MB shared
memory and integrated audio. In addition, the desktop's spacious,
seven-bay BTX case allows for plenty of expansion and multiple I/O
options, such as six USB ports, two Firewire ports, three PCI
slots, one PCIe X16 and one PCIe X1. Finally, an integrated
10/100/1000 NIC means the E-6300 can take advantage of gigabit
networked environments. The Gateway E-6300 has a base configuration
priced at $989, which includes a standard, three-year limited
warranty(2). The PC is available with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP
Pro and several different DVD-RW/CD-RW or floppy drive options. A
small business configuration, E-6300 SB, is also available, which
includes the option to add Microsoft productivity applications
pre-bundled with the system. Gateway E-4300: Mainstream Business
Powerhouse Gateway's mainstream business PC model, the E-4300,
offers several of the features of the high-end E-6300 desktop and
two different case options -- a four-bay or six-bay chassis. Like
the E-6300, the E-4300 also sports an Intel 915G chipset, DDR2
memory and serial ATA hard drives. And the desktop can be
configured with a full range of other Intel 5XX HT and Celeron D
3XX processors. The E-4300 also features the Integrated Intel
Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with 128 MB shared memory and
integrated audio. In the six-bay case, the E-4300 offers two PCI
slots, one PCIe X1 and one PCIe X16, while the smaller, four-bay
case offers a single one PCI slot and one PCIe X1 slot (for
graphics card option). Both versions have integrated 10/100/1000
NIC to take advantage of gigabit networked environments. In
addition to USB 2.0 ports, Firewire ports now come standard. The
Gateway E-4300 has a base configuration priced at $949, which
includes a standard, three-year limited warranty(2). The PC is
available with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Pro and several different
DVD-RW/CD-RW or floppy drive options. A small business
configuration, E-4300 SB, is also available, which includes the
option to add Microsoft productivity applications pre-bundled with
the system. Gateway E-2300: Value Business Platform The value model
of the E-Series family, the E-2300, comes in both four- and six-bay
case options, and features the Intel 865GV chipset with either
Celeron or Pentium 4 processors and 533 MHz or 800 MHz Front Side
Bus support. The E-2300 also offers DDR 400 MHz single-channel
memory, six USB 2.0 ports and one PCI slot. Despite its inexpensive
pricing, the E-2300 features Integrated Intel Extreme 2 graphics,
integrated audio and an integrated 10/100 NIC card. The four-bay
case has one PCI slot, while the six-bay model offers three. The
Gateway E-2300 has a base configuration priced at $629, which
includes a standard, three-year limited warranty(2). The PC is
available with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Pro and several different
DVD-RW/CD-RW or floppy drive options. A small business
configuration, E-2300 SB, is also available, which includes the
option to add Microsoft productivity applications pre-bundled with
the system. "As the first major vendor to bring BTX to business
desktops, Gateway is helping customers get better cooling with
hotter-running desktops," said Marc Demars, Gateway's director of
business desktop platforms. "And in today's budget-conscious
business environments, we believe professional customers will
embrace the opportunity to get longer lifespans out of their PCs."
