Tablet PC functionality Within $150 of a Mainstream Notebook: New
Gateway Convertible Notebook Puts Tablets Within Reach for
Businesses Notebook-to-Tablet Functionality Means Greater Mobile
Productivity, Efficiency and Flexibility NEW YORK, Nov. 11
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, Inc. today launched the
Gateway(R) M275 high-performance convertible notebook that delivers
state-of-the-art tablet functionality. With prices starting at
$1,799.99(1), it is only $150 more than similarly configured
performance notebooks. The small $150 premium adds the convenience
and flexibility of tablet pen-based computing and will be a key
driver for many businesses that are considering, but have not yet
migrated to the tablet platform. (Logo:

Gateway M275 was launched today at the Gateway(R) store in New York
City, where chairman and CEO Ted Waitt revealed the company's
dramatic retail transformation and unveiled 14 new products for
businesses and consumers. "The Gateway M275's flexibility,
uncompromised performance and tremendous value will convince many
businesses, educational institutions and students to begin taking
advantage of tablet PC functionality," said Mike Stinson, vice
president and general manager, mobile products, Gateway, Inc. "Our
customers can now have a full-featured, high-performance notebook
PC and a flexible tablet PC in a single product that can be used in
new ways -- like to conveniently handwrite notes, sketches or
diagrams directly onto the display in class or at a meeting." The
new Gateway M275 combines the best in mobile performance with
tablet functionality for flexible data input via keyboard, pen or
voice. The large, 14.1-inch display simply and easily rotates on a
hinge, enabling the display to stand up for use as a traditional
notebook, or be turned and folded on top of the keyboard for use as
a tablet. As one of the largest tablet displays available on the
market today, the Gateway M275 gives users considerable writing
space. Plus, the 1024x768 resolution contributes to the vivid,
crisp image, while voice recognition technology built into
Microsoft's(R) Windows(R) XP tablet PC Edition extends the benefits
of tablet computing further by making dictation simple and
accurate. The new Gateway M275 convertible notebook expands the
company's tablet offering, which already includes the award winning
Gateway(R) Tablet PC. The Gateway M275 and Gateway Tablet PC are
the ideal productivity companions for many professionals who need
the power of a full-featured mobile PC to take with them as they
move around their work environments, such as doctors and nurses
making rounds in hospitals and managers in warehouse or
manufacturing facilities. Also, educational institutions will
appreciate the benefits for students, who can use the tablet
functionality during instruction, as well as administrators who
move about a school site observing classrooms. The Gateway M275
features the most advanced mobile PC technology on the market
today. Intel(R) Centrino(R) technology(2) in the Gateway M275
notebook includes mobile-optimized Intel(R) Pentium-M(R)
processors, as well as standard integrated WiFi 802.11b wireless
connectivity to take advantage of wireless hot spots at college
campuses, airports and hotels. Customers also have the option to
upgrade to integrated 802.11g wireless. The new Gateway M275
notebook delivers more than four hours of battery life with a
standard Lithium Ion battery, providing extra productivity on the
road(3). The Gateway M275 also comes standard with an integrated
v.92 modem and 10/100 Ethernet, and supports an optional port
replicator. The digital media-ready Gateway M275 also houses two
integrated media devices -- a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive and a
four-in-one memory card reader that can access Smart Media, Secure
Digital Stick, Multimedia Cards and Memory Stick cards. These
storage devices, along with the large hard drive, two USB 2.0 ports
and IEEE connection, make it easy to store, edit and share
presentations, files, photos and video. The Gateway M275 will be
sold in two configurations, with additional customizing available
for business customers. The M275X, priced at $1,799.99(1), includes
an Intel Pentium-M processor 1.4GHz, 256MB DDR SDRAM memory, 40GB
hard disk drive(4), four-in-one memory card reader, 24X
DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, integrated 802.11b wireless networking
and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Tablet PC Edition. The Gateway
M275XL, priced at $2,099.99(1), builds on the M275X configuration
with upgraded features including an Intel Pentium-M processor
1.6GHz, 512MB DDR SDRAM memory and a 60GB hard disk drive. (4) All
the features of the Gateway M275 are conveniently bundled in a
sleek new industrial design weighing 5.7 pounds(5) and measuring
12.6x10.8x1.1 inches (WxDxH). Availability and Limited Warranty The
Gateway M275 will be available beginning November 13 for purchase
online, by phone or by going to one of the 190 Gateway(R) stores
nationwide. The Gateway M275 is supported by Gateway's standard
