"We welcome Ms. Squire and Mr. Murray to the program and believe this fellowship will provide the opportunities for them to receive the knowledge and experience necessary for future media ownership." Ms. Squire and Mr. Murray constitute the second class of NABOB DaimlerChrysler Management Fellows. The first two fellows, Alexis Snipe- Campbell and Bartt Horton, were chosen in 2005 and will complete their two- year program this year. Specifically, DaimlerChrysler has committed a total of $75,000 to sponsor the fellowships through NABOB, intended to put minorities on the track to broadcast media ownership. "Media ownership has a direct affect on media content, from local news reporting to radio music programming," noted Fountain. "Minorities overall own a majority interest in only 3.6% of the total number of stations. Our partnership with the National Association of Black Owned broadcasters to sponsor the NABOB DaimlerChrysler Management Fellowship is our contribution to change the proportion of minority-owned stations within the landscape of all broadcast stations." As NABOB DaimlerChrysler Management Fellows, Squire and Murray will go through a rigorous two-year learning program including: the laws governing U.S. airwaves, the requirements of financial institutions for funding and the nuances of running a media operation. Further, the program develops management skills ranging from on-air personalities to signal coverage to hiring engineers and training advertising sales staff. In addition, DaimlerChrysler will host a "Fellows Retreat" at DaimlerChrysler Corporate Headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, where the fellows will have an opportunity to meet and interact with corporate representatives and glean valuable insight from their knowledge and expertise. "We are very excited about this program and about working with NABOB to help this very valuable organization fulfill its mission to improve and increase the opportunities for black and minority owners in the broadcast industry," said Fountain.
