Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Recognized by Edison Electric
Institute for Response to Florida Hurricanes BALTIMORE, Jan. 5
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), a
subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), today announced it
has been presented an Emergency Assistance Award by the Edison
Electric Institute (EEI) for the utility's efforts to help restore
power following a series of hurricanes in Florida in 2004. "BGE is
proud to accept this award, which represents the tireless efforts
of the men and women who spent weeks away from home, working long
hours and under extreme conditions, helping Florida utilities
restore service to the millions of customers who lost power during
a string of relentless hurricanes that virtually destroyed the
electric systems in parts of the south last summer," said Kenneth
W. DeFontes, president of BGE. "Much like the massive show of
support from utilities and contractors assisting BGE in the
aftermath of Hurricane Isabel in 2003, our effort in Florida
further demonstrates the value of the mutual assistance networks
that exist among utilities." The crews were deployed to Florida
even as remnants of the hurricanes threatened Central Maryland.
This assistance would not have been possible without the dedication
of the BGE personnel who remained in Maryland, ready to respond to
storm-related outages throughout BGE's service territory. BGE's
response in Florida included contract personnel from Pike Electric,
Utility Lines Construction (formerly Asplundh), Shaw Energy
Delivery Services, Davis H. Elliott and Riggs Distler. Utilities
receiving assistance from BGE included Florida Power and Light
(FPL), Gulf Power, Progress Energy, and Tampa Electric. BGE is a
member of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), a Fortune 500 integrated
energy company based in Baltimore. Constellation Energy is the
nation's leading competitive supplier of electricity to large
commercial and industrial customers. It owns and operates a
diversified fleet of 35 power plants in 12 states. Additionally,
Constellation Energy markets energy nationally and manages the
associated risks, providing value-added services for its customers.
The company also delivers electricity and natural gas through the
Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), its regulated utility in
Central Maryland. In 2003, the combined revenues of the integrated
energy company totaled $9.7 billion. DATASOURCE: Baltimore Gas and
