Baltimore Gas and Electric Completes Natural Gas Restoration Full
Service Returned One Day Sooner Than Expected BALTIMORE, Oct. 28
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE),
a subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), tonight announced
that it has restored natural gas service to the majority of
residents in the Overlea-Fullerton neighborhood of Baltimore County
who were affected by last Saturday's natural gas interruption, one
day ahead of the previously announced schedule. The company added
that there may be a few customers whose service has not yet been
restored because BGE crews have not been able to access their homes
to inspect meters and gas-fed appliances which may have been
damaged by water which infiltrated the utility's gas mains. In
those cases, BGE has left flyers at those homes and made phone
calls to customers in order to arrange times for when BGE crews can
conduct inspections of its service lines, gas meters and its
customers' natural gas-fed appliances. "We sincerely appreciate our
customers' patience and understanding throughout this massive
restoration effort, as well as that of the neighborhood whose
day-to-day activities were disrupted by this unfortunate event,"
said E. Frank Bender, vice president of gas operations for BGE.
"Thankfully, we've completed the task without any injuries to
either our customers or the more than 300 BGE and other workers
from neighboring utilities who worked long hours to restore service
as quickly and safely as possible." The company will continue to
conduct follow up surveys of its gas mains in the area to check for
leakage of natural gas. BGE advises its customers that should they
detect an odor of natural gas, they should call the utility
immediately at 410-685-0123. Of the roughly 1,900 restored
customers, approximately 500 were found to have some sort of water
damage possibly requiring either repair or replacement of natural
gas-fed appliances prior to relighting of pilot lights. BGE also
thanked the many crews from neighboring utilities which assisted
BGE in the restoration effort. Those utilities included Washington
Gas Light, Columbia Gas, Conectiv Power Delivery, Philadelphia Gas
Works and Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (PPL). BGE is a
member of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), a Fortune 500 integrated
energy company based in Baltimore. Constellation Energy is the
nation's leading competitive supplier of electricity to large
commercial and industrial customers. It owns and operates a
diversified fleet of 35 power plants in 11 states. Additionally,
