Baltimore Gas and Electric Continues Draining Water From Gas Mains and Begins Restoring Service to Customers Following Water Main Break All Homes Must Be Accessed in Order to Complete Restoration BALTIMORE, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), today announced that it continues the lengthy process of draining water from gas mains following Saturday's water main break at Belair Road and Cardwell Avenue in Baltimore County, which affected service to about 1,600 natural gas customers. "BGE thanks its customers for their cooperation as we work to restore service as safely and as quickly as possible," said E. Frank Bender, vice president of gas operations for BGE. "The exact amount of water that entered the gas mains remains unknown, therefore we cannot predict the length of time it will take to drain the water from the gas mains. However, we have been able to isolate parts of the affected system that have been drained and are beginning the process of restoring natural gas service. It is imperative that customers continue to assist BGE by allowing us access to their homes and businesses in order to relight pilot lights." As part of the restoration process, utility crews will check gas-fed appliances prior to relighting pilot lights. If problems associated with the water main break are found with any gas-fed appliance, customers will be advised to have it inspected by a licensed contractor, and to work with their insurance companies if there are any financial concerns. BGE cannot make repairs to customers' appliances. Service restoration has begun west of Belair Road just south of the Baltimore Beltway where gas mains have been fully drained. BGE is working in a southeasterly direction and is finding higher levels of water in the main because of the area's downhill terrain. The buildup of water in low-lying areas is extending the time it takes to drain the mains. BGE urges customers to be patient as crews work through this process. Assisting BGE in relighting appliance pilots are personnel from several neighboring utilities, including Washington Gas Light, Columbia Gas, Conectiv Power Delivery, Philadelphia Gas Works and Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (PPL). BGE is a member of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), a Fortune 500 integrated energy company based in Baltimore.
