Constellation Energy to Construct New Emergency Operations Facility
and Joint News Center ONTARIO, N.Y., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
-- Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced that its
subsidiary, Constellation Generation Group, will construct a new
state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Facility (EOF) and adjoining
Joint News Center (JNC), which would be used to support response
efforts in the unlikely event of an emergency situation involving
the company's R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. The $1.5 million
project, which includes construction of a 19,000-square- foot
facility on 7.27 acres, will be located at Research Forest in the
Gananda region of the town of Macedon, N.Y. Constellation Energy
and the Wayne County Industrial Development Agency worked together
extensively during the past year to locate an ideal site. "We are
ecstatic that Constellation Energy has chosen Wayne County as the
ideal place for its business," said Jim Armstrong, acting executive
director for industrial development for Wayne County.
"Constellation Energy, like many other businesses, is helping Wayne
County grow and become a place where businesses can succeed." Under
existing emergency response plans, the EOF and JNC serve as the
focal points for Constellation Energy as well as local, state and
federal officials involved in Ginna-related response activities.
"This latest investment is further indicative of our strong
commitment to the safety of those who call the area around R.E.
Ginna home," said Maria Korsnick, site vice president of the R.E.
Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. "This state-of-the-art facility
positions Constellation Energy and its local, state and federal
partners well, in the highly unlikely event that a situation would
occur at the facility requiring an emergency response." When
complete, the facility, which is located roughly 12.5 miles south
of R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, also will serve as a training
annex in support of the 495-megawatt plant. Constellation Energy
also announced that LeFrois Builders of Henrietta, N.Y., has been
selected to provide design-build services for the project. While
the bulk of construction is expected to take place in 2004,
Constellation Energy expects the project to be complete by early
2005. Constellation Energy (http://www.constellation.com/), a
Fortune 500 company based in Baltimore, is the nation's leading
competitive supplier of electricity to large commercial and
industrial customers and one of the nation's largest wholesale
power sellers. Constellation Energy also manages fuels and energy
services on behalf of energy intensive industries and utilities. It
owns and operates a diversified fleet of 35 power plants in 12
states. The company delivers electricity and natural gas through
the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), its regulated utility
in Central Maryland. In 2003, the combined revenues of the
integrated energy company totaled $9.7 billion. DATASOURCE:
