Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) announced that it has been
named a Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company for 2010. The company
ranked first globally in the category “Independent Power Producers
(IPPs) & Energy Traders,” and 31st on overall performance among
all energy companies globally. Platts’ rankings are based on asset
worth, revenue, profit and return on invested capital.
“Being recognized by Platts as the leading Independent Power
Producer in the world is a reflection of our commitment to a
diverse generation portfolio and an integrated and innovative
commercial platform, which enables Constellation Energy to deliver
customized solutions to the marketplace and post strong results,
even in challenging commodity cycles,” said Kathleen Hyle, senior
vice president, Constellation Energy, and chief operating officer
of the company’s commercial division. “This recognition also
underscores the considerable effort of our employees to increase
efficiency and drive innovation, so I am particularly pleased that
this hard work has been recognized within the industry.”
The 2010 rankings were announced at the Platts Top 250 Global
Energy Companies Awards and Leadership Dinner on Nov. 2 in
Singapore.
“Maryland-based Constellation Energy Group Inc. can be
particularly pleased with its exceptional rise from 185th last year
to 31st, putting it in the number one slot sectorally for IPPs, ”
wrote Platts in an overview of the Top 250 Global Energy Company
Rankings. “Having suffered a tough price and liquidity environment,
along with the rest of the U.S. power sector in 2008,
Constellation’s restructuring appears to have brought quick
benefits.”
All companies on the list have assets greater than U.S. $2
billion. The fundamental and market data comes from a database
compiled and maintained by Capital IQ Compustat, a business of
Standard & Poor’s, which, like Platts, is a division of the
McGraw-Hill Companies.
