Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) today announced that Charles A. Berardesco, senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer of Constellation Energy, will be honored by the National LGBT Bar Association with its annual Out & Proud Corporate Counsel award for his work with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Berardesco will receive the award during the organization’s Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Reception on Oct. 7, 2010 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“Charlie Berardesco represents the best that the legal profession can offer,” stated D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the LGBT Bar Association. “He illustrates his commitment to excellence in business and the profession – after all, it was his peers who nominated him for this recognition. His commitment to the community is evidenced by his charitable work on boards of directors of esteemed social justice organizations. He exemplifies the type of lawyer we all should strive to become.”

In addition to serving in his other roles at Constellation Energy, Berardesco is the chairman of Constellation Energy's Diversity Council, a cross functional team of leaders from across the enterprise that work on incorporating diversity and inclusion into the workplace.

"I believe in embracing and integrating diversity and inclusion into all aspects of my life, both personally and professionally," said Berardesco. "At Constellation Energy, we are committed to continually implementing policies and best practices that support a diverse and inclusive corporate culture."

Prior to joining Constellation Energy, Berardesco had practiced law for nearly 20 years, both in-house and as external counsel. He is a member of the Business Council of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for LGBT Americans. In addition, he is active in a number of charitable organizations, including having served as chairman of the board of the Woodbourne Center, president of the Presbyterian Home of Maryland, chair of the Church Council of Foundry United Methodist Church and a member of the board of directors of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Hippodrome Foundation.

The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association that promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBT community. In 2007, the LGBT Bar began hosting its signature Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Reception in New York City, in conjunction with the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Annual Creating Pathways to Diversity Conference. Since then, the event has expanded to multiple cities, including San Francisco and Los Angeles. This year’s reception will be held for the first time in Washington, D.C.
