Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced the expansion of Constellation Electric residential electricity supply in Maryland to customers in the Allegheny Power and Delmarva Power service areas. Constellation Electric is now available to 1.9 million residential customers in Maryland served by the major distribution utilities, Baltimore Gas and Electric, PEPCO, Allegheny Power and Delmarva Power.

“Maryland residents are embracing electricity choice and are eager to lower their current electricity rates, so we are pleased to extend Constellation Electric to Allegheny and Delmarva customers in the state,” said Kevin Klages, president and CEO of BGE HOME, the company offering Constellation Electric service in Maryland. “Consumers win when they have more choices and companies like Constellation Electric competing for their business.”

Customers in the Delmarva Power service area can select from two plans to save on electricity: a one-year fixed price option delivering an estimated savings of 12 percent compared to the utility’s current weighted average price of Standard Offer Service electricity and a two-year option offering an estimated 13 percent savings. Allegheny Power customers can select either a one-year fixed price option delivering an estimated savings of 7 percent compared to the utility’s current weighted average price of Standard Offer Service electricity (including transmission) or a two-year option offering an estimated 9 percent savings. Customers in both service areas will receive a gift card to a large retail store: selecting the two-year options will receive a $75 gift card and those selecting the one-year options will receive a $50 gift card.

The company’s direct mail offer to residents in the Allegheny Power and Delmarva Power service areas will begin arriving in mailboxes this week. The Constellation Electric residential pricing plans for Allegheny Power and Delmarva Power are limited-time offers extending through Oct. 15, 2010. There is no sign-up or enrollment fee. There will be no interruption in a customer’s electricity service. Everything else will remain the same – Allegheny Power and Delmarva Power will continue to handle billing, and will accept and respond to all service inquiries, including queries about outages. By Maryland law and Public Service Commission regulations, electricity competition has no impact on the transmission or distribution of electricity.

The Maryland Public Service Commission, the state agency that regulates energy companies doing business in Maryland, licenses energy suppliers such as Constellation Electric to compete with the state’s utilities. Allegheny Power and Delmarva Power participate in Maryland’s Energy Choice initiative and have consumer education information on their websites (Allegheny Power, Delmarva Power).

This offer is made by BGE Home Products & Services, Inc. doing business as Constellation Electric, which is not the same company as BGE, a regulated utility.
