Central Maryland Utility Nears Completion of Massive Restoration Effort BALTIMORE, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), today announced that it has restored electric service to nearly all of its customers who lost service during the weekend snow storm. The overwhelming majority of all customers impacted by the storm are expected to be restored by 11:00 p.m. tonight. The storm, which interrupted service to approximately 177,000 BGE customers, was the most damaging snow storm to impact the utility since 1987 when approximately 222,000 customers lost service. "BGE's aggressive approach to attacking this storm is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our employees to serving their customers," said Mark P. Huston, vice president of electric transmission and distribution for BGE. "More than 900 BGE and out-of-state personnel traveled on ice and snow covered roadways, endured long hours and dangerous conditions to restore service, and are to be commended for their efforts. But we can not forget the customers whose service was out for an extended period of time. Early on we asked for their patience, and we thank them for their understanding as we worked to restore service as quickly and as safely as possible." Over the course of this storm, more than 140,000 calls were made to BGE's Customer Call Center. BGE responded to more than 2,500 cases of downed wires, and thousands of pieces of equipment were replaced or repaired. Mutual assistance for this effort was provided by contractors and utilities from several states including Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. In an ongoing effort to stay prepared for adverse weather conditions and the potential for service interruptions, BGE regularly conducts emergency preparedness drills during which all aspects of storm response and service restoration processes are tested. BGE also reviews its Electric Delivery Emergency Response Plan to ensure that storm response procedures are up-to- date and in line with industry standards. Just as BGE stands ready to address adverse weather and related service interruptions, customers are also encouraged to always be prepared for power outages by having emergency supplies on hand.
