Refueling Outage BALTIMORE, April 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced that the refueling
outage at its R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, N.Y., was
completed at 3:24 a.m. on Sunday and the plant is back in service.
The outage was completed in 21 days, which represents the shortest
refueling duration ever achieved at Ginna. Previously, the shortest
refueling outage was 31 days. "Performance in this outage
exemplifies the excellence we are achieving," said Maria Korsnick,
vice president of Ginna. "In safety, operations, and efficiency, we
are constantly growing. Being a part of Constellation Energy has
really strengthened our capabilities and is propelling us forward."
More than a year of in-depth planning and preparation set the stage
for the successful refueling outage. Employees of Ginna and other
Constellation Energy organizations, as well as specialized
contractors, worked on the various projects required to complete
the refueling. Major tasks included replenishing about one-third of
the reactor's nuclear fuel, an inspection of the main generator,
and the installation of upgraded pumps and motors. Ginna is rated
at 515 gross megawatts of electricity, enough to meet the energy
needs of 125,000 homes. Ginna has been operating since 1970 and in
2004 had its license extended through 2029. Constellation Energy
