Woodward to Supply REpower With Wind Power Converters for 295 MW Offshore Wind Farm
April 15 2010 - 4:00PM

Woodward Governor Company (NASDAQ: WGOV) today announced that it
signed an agreement with REpower Systems AG to provide power
converters for 48 6MW offshore wind turbines. Woodward will
manufacture the CONCYCLE® power converters at its facility in
Kempen, Germany.
The wind turbines are intended for the Nordsee Ost offshore wind
farm, to be built in the German Bight of the North Sea between 2011
and 2013. The REpower turbines, based on the proven technology of
the 5MW class, have a total capacity of approximately 295
megawatts.
"Woodward is proud to be selected as the converter supplier for
some of the most powerful wind turbines in the world," said Gerhard
Lauffer, President, Electrical Power Systems. "This agreement
strengthens our relationship with REpower in the offshore market,
where we believe there is significant potential for future global
growth."
Woodward has supplied CONCYCLE® converters for REpower wind
turbines for more than eight years; 5MW and 6MW turbine class
converters since 2004. Recently, Woodward successfully commissioned
power converters for the first German offshore wind farm, Alpha
Ventus, which uses six REpower 5MW wind turbines.
Power converters are a critical component for delivering stable,
high-quality power to the grid by controlling the voltage and power
from the wind turbine generator, so voltage and frequency are
constant and independent of the variable rotation speed of the wind
turbine.
