Johnson to the company�s board of directors. During Johnson's ten years as president and CEO of Sutter Health, Sutter doubled in size to over 26 hospitals serving 100 communities. At a time that chronicled the closure of more than 40 hospitals and the failure of numerous physician groups in Northern California, Johnson led Sutter Health to emerge as one of the nation�s leading not-for-profit health care networks through one of the most comprehensive, long-term health care facility master planning processes ever undertaken in Northern California. Sutter Health, under Van Johnson�s leadership, invested $5.7 billion in an initiative which built, replaced, or expanded more than a dozen hospitals and invested well over $1 billion in programs and services to benefit local communities.
