•    CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) increased 7.19% to close the day at $27.21 after the company doubled its dividend and reported first- quarter profits that beat analysts’ estimates

•    Allergan's (NYSE:AGN) share prices rose 3.66% after it reported higher-than-expected first-quarter results on Wednesday, fueled by strong sales growth of its Botox anti-wrinkle medicine and its eye care and skin care products

•    Share prices of semiconductor-equipment maker Novellus Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:NVLS) rose 6.5% after the company said it would offer $525 million in senior notes, much of which will be used for share buyback

•    ConAgra Foods, Inc. (NYSE:CAG) offered to acquire food maker Ralcorp Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RAH) for about $4.9 billion. However, Ralcorp rejected the bid

•    Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) said it would buy ion-implantation equipment supplier Varian Semiconductor (NASDAQ:VSEA) for $4.9 billion
