New Tumbleweed Appliances Establish Security Performance Benchmarks

Business Wire
Tumbleweed Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:TMWD), the industrys
leading pure play messaging security vendor, today announced the
availability of its newest MailGate messaging security appliance
and Validation Authority (VA) identity validation appliance, both
setting performance benchmarks in their respective fields. The
newest MailGate appliance is able to process up to 1.8 million
messages per hour, a new messaging security performance standard
and substantial performance advantage over competing appliances.
The Tumbleweed Validation Authority identity validation appliance,
used for real-time validation of digital certificates, has now
increased appliance performance by up to 40 percent. The enhanced
performance of Tumbleweeds newest MailGate appliance enables
enterprises to remain ahead of the recent increase in spam volume
and size, due to larger image spam messages. Companies can also use
MailGate to efficiently perform outbound content filtering to
protect intellectual property and other sensitive data. Validation
Authoritys performance gains will now allow banks, government
agencies, and businesses around the globe to even more effectively
utilize their Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and digital
certificates to secure access to networks, electronic transactions
and physical access of military and government facilities. We are
releasing two high-performance appliances to counter the recent
doubling of worldwide spam volumes and need for content filtering,
along with our insistence on offering the fastest possible VA
appliance, said Joe Fisher, vice president of product management
at Tumbleweed. Tumbleweed recognizes the need for constant
innovation to remain ahead of threats and exceed customer
expectations, so these new appliances set new standards amongst
competing products that will enable our customers to remain secure
and focus on their core businesses. To enhance MailGates
performance, Tumbleweed has incorporated sophisticated dual-core
processors, redundant drives with RAID controllers, and embedded
systems-management processors for remote serviceability into the
MailGate line. Tumbleweed has also further enhanced its worldwide
support levels with same-day, onsite service for any hardware
issues that may arise. Businesses need to stay ahead of the
ever-increasing amount of spam, which increased some 100 percent
between May 2006 and January 2007, said Michael Osterman,
president of Osterman Research. By constantly improving product
performance and placing an emphasis on innovation, companies like
Tumbleweed enable businesses to retain control of their messaging
security and data protection." The MailGate performance
advancements come on the heels of two SC Magazine honors for the
MailGate line, both an SC Magazine Best of 2006 Award and finalist
honors for the SC Magazine Excellence Awards. MailGate appliances
are priced on a per-user basis, starting at around $10,000. About
