HAYWARD, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Solta Medical, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SLTM), a global leader in the medical aesthetics market
and manufacturer of the industry's three premier brands: Thermage®,
Fraxel®, and Isolaz®, today announced the new Fraxel re:store® DUAL
laser system for the treatment of actinic keratoses (AK) – a
precancerous skin condition caused by sun exposure. As the
leader in fractional laser technology, Fraxel delivers minimally
invasive clinical solutions to resurface aging and sun damaged
skin.
Fraxel re:store treatment provides superior results for AKs on
the face or other areas of the body displaying the signs of
photodamage. In an ongoing clinical study at the Laser &
Skin Surgery Center of New York,
dermatologists found that treatment with the new Fraxel re:store
DUAL laser resolved 86% of AK lesions. In addition, the study
found improvement in skin texture and pigmentation following a
Fraxel treatment.
"Skin cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer,
with sun protection and liberal use of a sunscreen of at least SPF
30," says Roy Geronemus, MD,
director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. "However, if one already has
significant sun damage, as can be the case with active golfers, I
recommend the new Fraxel re:store DUAL laser treatment. In our
study, we found an 86% clearance of AKs after a series of
treatments with the Fraxel re:store laser. This rate is comparable
or better to other topical therapies; however Fraxel has the added
benefit of improving skin quality, color and texture. I refer to
the Fraxel re:store DUAL as the best of both worlds - removal of
precancerous lesions as well as better looking skin."
To support skin cancer awareness, Solta Medical is sponsoring
professional golf's Fresh Express Classic™ at TPC Stonebrae in
northern California, which begins
today. Tournament player Kyle
Reifers is representing Fraxel in the competition and
helping to raise awareness of the importance of sun protection. "On
the golf course, I'm constantly exposed to the sun, but didn't
really give a second thought to the damaging effects it might have
on my skin," Reifers said. "Meeting with clinicians from
Solta Medical, I now have a better understanding about what Fraxel
can do to reverse sun damage and what I can do to prevent future
damage from occurring while I'm out on the course."
"Solta Medical is committed to developing innovative, safe, and
effective anti-aging solutions that deliver the best possible
results in non-invasive aesthetic treatments," said Stephen J. Fanning, Chairman of the Board,
President and CEO of Solta Medical, Inc. "The expanded
versatility of the Fraxel re:store DUAL system demonstrates our
commitment to provide physicians with the best technology to offer
superior treatments for their patients."
As a sponsor of the Nationwide Tour's Fresh Express Classic™,
Solta Medical will be offering onsite skin education and screenings
at the tournament today through Sunday,
April 18. For more information, visit
