SCM is one of the first electronics manufacturers in Singapore to receive BS 7799 certification, which is considered a best practice standard for information security management. The certificate of compliance was awarded in June 2004 following a successful audit by SGS International Certification Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. Developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in conjunction with an international user group, BS 7799 was first published in the UK in February 1995 and upgraded in 2000 to the status of an international Standard (ISO/IEC 17799). The latest version of the Standard, BS 7799-2:2002, specifies the management framework, objectives, and control requirements for information security management systems. It provides over 127 main controls and over 500 detailed controls, structured under ten major headings.
