Business Wire
Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of
next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that
North American Telecom, a competitive local exchange carrier that
offers state-of-the-art IP communications services to business and
residential users, has selected Redback Networks' SmartEdge(R)
Service Gateway for the expansion of its next-generation network
marketed under the Broadsmart(R) label. Leveraging the power of the
SmartEdge Service Gateway broadband network infrastructure, North
American Telecom's Broadsmart division will strategically roll-out
new network collocation facilities in the Southeast region to
enable the delivery of high-performance IP-based services with
extensive Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities. Redback's highly
scalable SmartEdge Service Gateway will also handle the increased
subscriber capacity for advanced voice and data services among
small and medium businesses and residential customers. "Redback's
SmartEdge product is the centerpiece of our network expansion
strategy for delivering QoS-driven IP-based communications to users
in the Southeast," said Todd A. Correll, chief executive officer at
North American Telecom. "As we grow our customer base, the
SmartEdge is the ideal solution for delivering multiple services
from an integrated platform that we can scale quickly and
cost-effectively to meet subscriber demand." North American
Telecom's footprint expanded into nine states as the result of a
wholesale services agreement, requiring a highly adaptive and
efficient broadband platform that can aggregate and deliver
multiple IP-based services. In addition to aggregation and
subscriber management, Redback's SmartEdge enables Broadsmart to
provide advanced services such as hosted VoIP for business
customers as well as low-cost VoIP via DSL for consumers. The
Broadsmart-Powered by North American Telecom offering utilizes the
Redback SmartEdge Service Gateway to facilitate the delivery of
advanced IP-based voice services to subscribers via T1 leased
lines, DSL and metro Ethernet. "By providing a flexible and
scalable broadband solution, Redback is able to help customers like
North American Telecom simplify its network expansion, ensure
network flexibility for the introduction of future services and
reduce operational expenses," said John Spiliotis, Redback's vice
president of sales and operations for the Americas. "Furthermore,
North American Telecom is able to deliver competitively priced
services to enterprises and consumers leveraging the network
infrastructure savings from the deployment of our SmartEdge
equipment." About Broadsmart-Powered by North American Telecom
