Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of
next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that
AuBeta Networks, a Seattle, Washington-based Wide Area Network
Service Provider, has selected the SmartEdge(R) Service Gateway to
serve as the basis for their nationwide broadband network upgrade
to better serve business users. AuBeta Networks, in conjunction
with its partners, offers the largest Layer 2 DSL footprint in the
United States. AuBeta Networks supports over 14,000 central offices
providing reliable, secure high-bandwidth communications across the
United States. Leveraging the SmartEdge platform, AuBeta is
migrating its legacy network to a platform that will deliver more
flexible access services such as business-class DSL. In addition,
AuBeta selected Redback's SmartEdge platform to accommodate
increased network traffic and to optimize converged solution
offerings such Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony and
videoconferencing. "We deployed the SmartEdge Service Gateway
because we found it to be the only system that can support our
dramatic national growth and network feature requirements on one
platform," said Norm Hernandez, president and CEO of AuBeta
Networks. "Leveraging Redback's technology, we can offer secure
high-bandwidth services to our customers who need a reliable
network to better run their businesses." Redback's SmartEdge
Service Gateway will be utilized to provide secure connectivity and
enable next-generation IP-based network services to AuBeta's
expanding base of business customers. SmartEdge allows AuBeta to
offer tiered bandwidth and advanced Quality of Service (QoS) to
reduce costs and generate additional revenue streams. "By
consolidating multiple functions onto one platform, the SmartEdge
is able to offer a single service control point simplifying network
operations and reducing operational costs for service providers
such as AuBeta," said John Spiliotis, vice president of sales and
operations for the Americas at Redback Networks. "This allows
AuBeta to focus on meeting evolving customer needs and offer new
and advanced broadband service solutions." About AuBeta Networks
