SAN MATEO, Calif., July 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Marketo, Inc.
(NASDAQ: MKTO), today announced the launch of its Global Volunteer
Month in which its 800+ global employees across eight markets will
donate their time and resources to provide less-advantaged students
with the skills and support they need to succeed in today's
world.
The month-long initiative – the first of what will become an
annual event – aims to inspire success in all students, many of
whom face serious obstacles in their pursuit of academic
achievement.
"The path toward high school and college graduation can be
extremely challenging, especially for those students in our local
communities who lack access to the resources, role models and
networks they need to be successful," said Phil Fernandez, CEO of Marketo. "Through our
active community involvement, Marketo employees around the world
seek to inspire and support these young people on their education
journeys."
While all students face a number of obstacles in accessing and
succeeding in achieving a degree, this is especially true for
low-income students, many of whom are the first in their family to
attend college. Research from the National Center for Education
Statistics estimated that only 11 percent of first generation
students earn a degree within six years of enrollment.
All of Marketo's global offices will participate in the month of
service, including Atlanta,
Portland, Ore., London, Tokyo, Sydney, Tel
Aviv, Dublin, Ireland, and
its headquarters in San Mateo,
Calif. Activities in which its employees will participate
include:
- Revitalizing an under-resourced elementary school
- Tutoring students and leading a marketing workshop at a local
Boys & Girls Club
- Providing hands-on training and internships for students in
various Marketo offices
- Rebuilding gently used computers to be donated to local schools
and libraries
"The impact that Marketo employees will have on our school
brings tears to my eyes," said Sharon
Murphy, president of the PTA for Margaret Pauline Brown
Elementary School in Daly City,
Calif. "The partnership and the work of their employees
will not only transform the space where our students learn, but
ensure they are well equipped with the supplies and resources they
need to be successful throughout the year."
The Global Volunteer Month marks the first in a series of
structured social impact programs around education that the company
will initiate this year.
