IMPCO Technologies to Supply Off-Highway Industrial Engines to
Hyundai Heavy Industries CERRITOS, Calif., Dec. 4
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IMPCO Technologies, Inc. announced today
the signing of an agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) of
Korea that establishes IMPCO as the supplier of certified engines
with Spectrum(R) fuel systems beginning in 2004. This enables HHI
forklift trucks to meet the new off-highway emission certification
requirements of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that
become effective January 1, 2004. As part of the agreement, IMPCO
will become the Manufacturer of Record (MOR) for HHI's North
American requirements necessary to meet the new EPA emission
regulation. The two companies have also agreed to formalize a joint
development agreement for further off-highway ventures of mutual
interest. The emission certified engine market for industrial
equipment in the U.S. is estimated to be in excess of $180 million
annually. Europe and Japan are expected to implement similar
off-highway emission regulations in the 2006 timeframe. IMPCO,
through its emission certified engines with Spectrum(R) fuel
systems is well positioned to support industrial Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs) through the process of compliance with
emission regulations. Spectrum(R) is an advanced engine management
system developed by IMPCO specifically to fill the growing trend of
OEMs to out-source technology and engineering solutions to allow
their products to meet stringent emission regulations and customer
performance requirements. Presently, HHI has three forklift
applications commercially available that use IMPCO's technology.
