Airline Adds to Existing Denver and San Francisco Service From LAX
DENVER, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frontier is proud of
every award it wins, but nothing beats being awarded a new route!
Yesterday, Frontier Airlines was awarded final authority from the
Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin daily operations
between Los Angeles (LAX) and Cabo San Lucas (SJD). Beginning
today, customers can purchase tickets between the two cities on
FrontierAirlines.com, and in coming days through travel agents and
other online vendors. The new service, which will be aboard
Frontier's new fleet of Airbus A319 with 33 inches of legroom along
with DIRECTV service and pay-per-view movies in every seat back,
kicks off December 9, 2006, just in time for holiday travel. To
celebrate, Frontier is offering special introductory fares as low
as $198* roundtrip. This new flight is a significant addition to
Frontier's current Los Angeles service which includes five daily
flights to San Francisco and seven roundtrips to its Denver hub
where Frontier offers connections to its extensive network
stretching to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With the addition of
service to Cabo San Lucas, Frontier will now offer three non-stop
destinations from Los Angeles, providing the only low-cost carrier
service to Cabo San Lucas, Denver, and San Francisco. Los Angeles
joins another Frontier Southern California destination, San Diego,
which will see new service to Mexico as well when Frontier begins
its San Diego to Cancun flights on December 16, 2006. And rounding
out what has been a busy few months for Frontier's Mexico
expansion, the Company will also begin the area's first low cost
service to Guadalajara on December 22, 2006, with convenient
connections via Denver. Los Angeles - Cabo San Lucas Award
Background Frontier has been working hard to obtain this coveted
route authority for almost a year, after originally applying for
the route on September 27, 2005. After Frontier announced its
intention to fly the route, several other carriers asked the DOT to
be considered as well. On December 12, 2005, the DOT authored a new
bilateral agreement with Mexico allowing additional service between
the two counties. On June 21, 2006, Frontier was tentatively
awarded the right to fly the route subject to further review. That
review is now complete and Frontier has received final authority
for the service. In selecting Frontier, the DOT said, "We
tentatively concluded Frontier's superior new-entrant competition
and market structure benefits were pivotal in this case." The DOT
added, "A selection of Frontier in this proceeding will have a
positive impact on the overall level of competition, not only in
the primary market, but also in the Los Angeles-Mexico market, as
well as in the overall West Coast-Mexico market." Frontier
Continues Rapid Mexico Expansion With the addition of Los Angeles
to Cabo San Lucas, Frontier significantly expands its Mexico
operation yet again. Frontier will offer non-stops from Denver and
seven other U.S. cities to eight Mexican destinations this winter
including its newest destination, Guadalajara. Frontier's Non-stops
