Entropic's MoCA 2.0 Utilized by ARRIS in New Advanced Headless Video Gateway
January 08 2013 - 8:00AM
(The Consumer Electronics Show) — Entropic
(Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the
connected home, announced today its MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax
Alliance) 2.0 silicon and software solution has been selected by
ARRIS Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:ARRS) for use in the ARRIS MG2402 Video
Gateway that uses XG5 and Reference Design Kit (RDK) specifications
developed by Comcast.
The cable industry in North America is transitioning from a
traditional set-top box/digital video recorder set-up (STB/DVR) to
a Gateway/IP-client network architecture. Recognizing this macro
dynamic early, Entropic designed its MoCA 2.0 solution offering the
highest MAC throughput and most reliable whole-home connectivity
backbone from the gateway to all client devices in the home. With
backward interoperability to MoCA 1.0 and 1.1 devices, the MoCA 2.0
solution enables the advanced gateway to stream video and other
digital entertainment from the gateway to each IP-client
device.
"This is the first official product announcement of MoCA 2.0
designed into a headless gateway," said Al Servati, vice president
of Marketing, Connectivity Group, Entropic. "Our MoCA 2.0 solution
was selected for its maturity, stability and ability to enable
ARRIS to deliver IP services from the home gateway to lower cost
IP-Client set-top boxes – all over wired (MoCA) and wireless home
networks."
Entropic's MoCA 2.0 chipset answers the growing demand for
powerful connectivity within the home. Transforming the coaxial
infrastructure into a highly-efficient, reliable whole-home
entertainment network, MoCA 2.0 provides the greatest throughput,
enhanced reliability, necessary power management and security
features, and backwards interoperability to prior MoCA standards;
making it the key enabling technology to deliver a 'no excuses'
whole-home network for HD video and streaming media services.
"ARRIS is focused on maintaining a leadership position in this
gateway/client transformation by providing the most advanced,
intuitive video gateway solutions in the industry," said Derek
Elder, senior vice president and general manager of the ARRIS CPE
Business Unit. "Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution complements our
gateway strategy by providing a highly reliable, maximum throughput
home networking backbone."
"We applaud Entropic on being selected for use in the ARRIS
headless gateway," said Steve Reynolds, senior vice president of
Premises Technology for Comcast. "Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution
paves another path to economically deliver more services to cable
customers across a broader range of devices."
On Display at CES 2013: The Entropic solution
that supports the gateway/client architectures will be on display
at CES in the Wynn Las Vegas in the Alsace suite from January
8 - 11, 2013. For more information on Entropic's silicon or
