ATLANTA, May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CheckFree Corporation (NASDAQ:CKFR) today announced that C. Beth Cotner, CFA, has been elected to the Company's Board of Directors. Cotner most recently served as Interim CEO of Business Intelligence Advisors (BIA) from 2005 to 2006, where she continues to serve as a director on its board. BIA leverages intelligence-based techniques in the private sector, as a leading provider of innovative and independent research, analysis and training solutions. Prior to joining BIA, Cotner was Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Large Cap Growth area of Putnam Investment Management, Boston, from 1995 to 2003. While at Putnam, she grew Putnam Investors Fund from $1 billion in 1995 to $14 billion, establishing the fund among the firm's flagships, and grew the firm's large cap institutional business to $30 billion. She also chaired a group of Chief Investment Officers that analyzed all of Putnam's equity mutual funds and provided recommendations for performance improvement. Before joining Putnam, she was Executive Vice President of Kemper Financial Services, Chicago, from 1985 to 1995. At Kemper, she launched the Kemper Investment Portfolios Total Return Fund, which grew to $500 million and was ranked #1 in its category in the first year, and was given additional responsibility and positively impacted the performance of two existing mutual funds. Cotner also brings to CheckFree her experience as a portfolio manager with Sears Investment Management, Chicago from 1979 - 1985 where she captained Sears Emerging Growth Fund and was a venture capital analyst; and as an analyst with Kemper (1977-1979) and American Security Bank (1975-1977) where she co-managed a pension fund. She remains a member of the Investment Analysts Society in Boston, and a member of the Endowment Board for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Honors program at Ohio State University, and holds an MBA in International Business and Finance from George Washington University.
