American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ: ATCO), the innovator and distributor of the Long Range Acoustic Device(TM) (LRAD®) product line, announced today it has received an opening order for 17 LRAD systems from the Japan Coast Guard. The order was facilitated through the Company's distribution agreement with Marubeni Information Systems. Financial terms were not disclosed at the customer's request. Earlier this year, ATC delivered an opening LRAD order to the Japanese Navy under the distribution agreement.

LRAD directed sound products and systems enable military and security forces to determine the intent of potential threats at safe distances, providing time and distance to employ a scaled and measured response based on a threat's actions. LRAD is an effective non-lethal capability providing highly directional focused acoustic output to clearly transmit critical information, instructions and warnings at distances in excess of 3,000 meters. Through the use of powerful, multi-lingual voice commands and deterrent tones, LRAD creates increased stand off and safety zones, supports resolution of uncertain situations, and potentially prevents the use of deadly force.

ATC's proprietary Long Range Acoustic Device is the only acoustic hailing device (AHD) that meets the U.S. Navy's voice intelligibility and range requirements for large vessel anti-terrorism applications and force protection. In addition to ongoing LRAD shipments to the U.S. Navy, LRAD systems are being deployed by naval forces in Australia, Singapore, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Portugal, with additional LRAD installations expected by other international maritime fleets.

"These worldwide naval deployments evidence that LRAD is being increasingly recognized as an essential capability for maritime security," said Tom Brown, president and CEO of American Technology. "We're pleased to be working with Marubeni Information Systems and their partners on multiple LRAD market opportunities in Japan."
