The European Commission Monday told Slovakia's telecommunications regulator to make the country's mobile termination rates more competitive.

Mobile termination rates are the fees mobile service operators charge each other to connect calls between their networks. Slovak's mobile termination rates are amongst the highest in the European Union, according to the commission, the bloc's regulatory arm.

The commission wants the Slovakian telecommunications regulator to reconsider a fee structure established for the three mobile phone operators, Orange Slovensko, a unit of France Telecom (FTE) T-Mobile Slovensko, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG (DT) and Telefonica 02 Slovakia, a unit of Telefonica SA (TEF).
