eMagin Corporation (AMEX:EMA) wants to put a virtual display on your computer and on your personal entertainment device. eMagin is showcasing its ground-breaking personal display systems - the award-winning Z800 3DVisor, new X800 3DVisor, and new iPod-compatible Eyebud 800 - at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) through January 9 in Las Vegas. eMagin is exhibiting in both the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth 36905) and the Innovations Pavilion at the Sands (IP249). Attendees can also see the Z800 3DVisor at the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase located in the Innovations Plus Pavilion. The Z800 3DVisor not only won the competitive Best of Innovations for the Digital Display category but was also honored with an Innovations Award for the Electronic Gaming category. -- eMagin's Z800 3DVisor delivers a high-color, high-contrast virtual image equivalent to a 105-inch screen viewed at twelve feet, in full-color stereovision. The Z800's high-speed headtracking provides full 360-degree viewing, enabling users to look around in the virtual world just as they would look around the real world. Completing the near-immersive experience is an integrated audio system with stereo earbuds and a noise-canceling microphone. To power all these capabilities, the Z800 requires only a standard USB port and can greatly extend a laptop's battery life when it's used instead of the standard LCD laptop screen. -- The new X800 3DVisor supports both 2D and 3D games and a full range of design programs without headtracking, so it is more like a large-screen but portable PC monitor. Ideal for personal entertainment, it can be used as the primary display or as a private monitor with a laptop. Based on the award-winning Z800 3DVisor, the X800 3DVisor brings users a large-screen experience - at a lower cost. Watching a DVD on the X800 is like viewing it on a 105-inch screen at twelve feet, and it draws its power from any standard USB port with no need for additional power sources. Completing the personal theatre experience is an integrated, audio system with stereo earbuds and a built-in noise-canceling microphone. -- The new Eyebud 800 personal display system, a monocular wearable display, provides video and sound coming directly from an iPod with video capability, or other portable devices with NTSC/PAL or RGB output. A patented detachable Eyeblocker permits a user to view images from a monocular optic without squinting or to use the Eyebud in a virtual see-through mode, and the system easily accommodates either left-eye or right-eye dominant people. While the iPod delivers a QVGA (320 x 240) video image on its 2.5-inch LCD, the EyeBud 800 display system can provide a full SVGA (800 x 600) video image through its virtual imaging system, permitting its use with PCs and being able to show all the resolution a conventional DVD can output. Its 40-degree field of view renders a virtual image equivalent to a 105-inch screen viewed from 12 feet. Like eMagin's 3DVisors, the EyeBud 800 is a complete personal display system, with high-quality stereo earbuds and a noise-canceling microphone. In this configuration, the monocular display draws its power from a small rechargeable battery good for up to 6 hours. The heart each of these virtual displays is eMagin's OLED-on-silicon microdisplay and prism optics technology. These highly responsive, lightweight active matrix displays take full advantage of the speed of OLED materials and the processing and buffering capabilities of the silicon substrate to provide high-contrast, flicker-free imagery. Because OLED materials emit light, the displays are thinner and lighter than conventional LCDs, and they also require less power, enabling these products to run on standard USB connections or very small battery packs. These displays offer higher contrast and a wider dispersion of light, making them more comfortable to view and usable for near-eye applications. eMagin's SVGA 3D OLED microdisplays recognize and deliver left-eye and right-eye stereovision signals with unsurpassed efficiency. The eMagin Z800 3DVisor is available now for $899 MSRP at www.3dvisor.com and through selected distributors. The eMagin X800 3DVisor and the eMagin Eyebud 800 personal display systems will be available later this year at introductory prices of $799 and $599, respectively. eMagin will also make the personal display systems technology as well as microdisplay and optics components available for customization by OEMs. Note to editors: Images of the Z800 and X800 3DVisors and the Eyebud 800 are available for download at http://www.emagin.com/html/press_kit.htm.
