Senior Airman Cody Hoffa, a local Hastings technician for Kinetic high-speed internet, was recognized as the 2023 Airman of the Year for the Air National Guard (ANG) 155th Maintenance Squadron (MXS).

Hoffa was awarded Airman of the Year for the 155th MXS after being selected out of 140 personnel following an extremely competitive nomination process. Each year ten Squadron Airmen of the Year are selected out of nearly 900 personnel. The award reflects the commitment, professionalism and service Hoffa represented while serving with the 155th MXS through the year of 2023.

After he graduated from Hastings High School in 2014, Hoffa started taking classes at a local community college and then joined the Kinetic team in 2018. He quickly established himself as a reliable and skilled technician specializing in installations, trouble tickets, and repairs with expertise that extends to various technologies, including copper, fixed wireless access (FWA), and fiber optics.

“Cody is an incredible technician and team member,” said Cris Wright, local Nebraska Operations Manager. “He is determined to provide premier customer service to our customers and even was recognized as lead technician for Kinetic from April to August of last year.”

In 2020 Hoffa enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and has served with the ANG 155th Air Refueling Wing. For the past four years, he has been a part of the 155th Maintenance Squadron, serving his country while working on the hydraulic systems on the U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotankers.

“Hoffa is a natural leader among his peers,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Brent Schiermann. “Recently he volunteered to participate in a temporary duty assignment to support the 155th [ANG Wing] in a joint NATO exercise in Europe for two weeks. During this time, we saw him excel and take advantage of all opportunities while we executed the mission.”

While Hoffa works full time with Kinetic, he is authorized military leave to participate in temporary duty opportunities and to fulfill his commitment, sometimes up to several weeks a year, with the ANG. These efforts and achievements are recognized during promotion cycles, which is when Hoffa recently earned the promotion to his current rank, senior airman. Within this role, he’s already upgraded to a fully certified journeyman responsibility of leading certain repairs.

“Serving in the [Air National] Guard and working for Kinetic has shown me the importance of balance and family,” said Hoffa. “None of this would be possible without my supportive managers with Kinetic and my squadron leadership, and my amazing wife, Jordyn.”

Hoffa and his wife Jordyn have been married for three years and have a blended family of six. In addition to working for Kinetic and the Air National Guard part time, he and his wife run a family Bounce House Business that they started in 2023. In addition to the ANG, Hoffa continues to work towards earning his bachelor's degree and enjoys coaching for his son’s traveling baseball team.
