Cassidian Communications, an EADS North America company, today
announced the addition of the City of Compton, Calif., to its long
and growing list of clients using The Communicator® NXT™ and the
GeoCast® Web™ notification solutions. Like their numerous peers
throughout the Golden State and nationwide, Compton officials can
now rapidly alert various audiences, such as emergency responders,
local residents and community volunteers, of situations, such as
hazardous materials incidents, inclement weather and other crises
that adversely affect public safety.
“The City of Compton now has the capability to inform residents,
schools and local businesses in situations requiring immediate
public knowledge,” said Jon Thompson, fire chief for the Compton
Fire Department. “With these solutions, we are able to notify
people using different modalities, including but not limited to
landline and cell phone, SMS and TTY/TDD, and mobilize critical
resources for faster, better orchestrated emergency response.”
The City of Compton—commonly referred to as the ‘Hub City’
because of its unique position in almost the exact geographical
center of Los Angeles—covers just 10.1 square miles, but is home to
almost 100,000 residents.
The Communicator! NXT solution provides the City of Compton with
complete automation of its simple to highly complex, list-based
emergency notification processes. When a notification is activated,
contacts within the platform’s database will receive voice and text
messages pertaining to the situation or need, and if necessary, be
able to supply critical individual feedback such as arrival time
and ‘Are you OK?’ status. The software’s equally efficient
counterpart, the GeoCast Web solution, will enable geospatial
notification within precisely targeted areas, including those
impacted by wildfires, mudslides and earthquakes. Going forward,
officials will also consider several non-emergency applications to
improve regular communications with the community-at-large.
Both The Communicator! NXT and the GeoCast Web solutions are
fully redundant SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms, residing in
Cassidian Communications’ state-of-the-art, geo-diverse hosting
facilities. Compton officials have secure access to data, maps and
infrastructure, and are able to activate notifications easily. Both
the solutions and the users also are backed by 24/7 technical
support, helping ensure their success when and if emergency
activations are necessary.
To further expand their communications reach, officials also are
working with Cassidian Communications to implement the
Self-Registration Portal (SRP) for the GeoCast Web solution. This
online tool, soon to be accessible through the City of Compton’s
website, http://www.comptoncity.org, lets residents proactively add
their cell, unpublished and VoIP phone numbers to the notification
database.
“We are honored to support the crisis communications initiatives
of public safety operations across the U.S. and abroad,” said Mike
Adams, product area business manager for Cassidian Communications.
“Adding the City of Compton to our customer base is especially
rewarding as it lies within our home state of California, which has
certainly seen its fair share of critical events over the years. We
understand the challenges associated with this area, and look
forward to a long and mutually rewarding partnership.”
