JDSU Introduces Unmatched Return Loss Measurement Capabilities for FTTx Optical Components

PR Newswire (US)
MILPITAS, Calif., March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU (Nasdaq:
JDSU; TSX: JDU) today introduced the Optical Component
Environmental Test System (OCETS) Plus for optical component
qualification testing, including the industry's first large-scale
automated test system capable of repeatable return loss
measurements up to 70dB. OCETS Plus will be on display next week at
OFC 2007 in Anaheim, California, March 27-29 (hall C, booth 2425).
JDSU's innovative test and measurement solutions like OCETS Plus
are critical to system production and qualification of FTTx
components. With over 420 test ports now supported (more than
double earlier versions), OCETS Plus runs on JDSU EasyOCETS
software that enables streamlined test set-up, monitoring,
graphing, and database interfacing of up to twelve 32-port PON
splitters. With EasyOCETS software, test configuration times are
reduced from hours to minutes, allowing lab staff to focus on test
results rather than configuring and maintaining the test system. An
option to integrate the JDSU T-BERD 8000's high-performance VLR
OTDR module further reduces device load times and removes the need
for costly splicing. "An effective FTTx network infrastructure
requires test support from component level qualification testing
through network service assurance," said Enzo DiLuigi, general
manager of JDSU's Fiber Optics Communications Test and Measurement
group. "With the enhancements available via OCETS Plus, JDSU is the
only test and measurement provider that validates the reliability
of FTTx networks from beginning to end." EasyOCETS software is also
available separately to upgrade existing OCETS systems. About the
JDSU Optical Component Environmental Test System (OCETS) JDSU's
OCETS has long been the choice for users whose components must meet
Telcordia standards such as GR-326-CORE, GR-910-CORE, GR-1209-CORE,
GR-1221- CORE, and GR-1435-CORE. In these test standards, optical
components are subjected to a range of environmental conditions,
usually over a period of many weeks. Chamber conditions are logged
at specified time intervals and the required parameters for each
device under test (DUT) are measured. User selected parameters are
calculated from these measurements and are logged along with the
time and environmental data. Originally developed for submarine
component qualification programs, OCETS has been shipping
commercially for over a decade. About JDSU JDSU is committed to
enabling broadband & optical innovation in the communications,
commercial and consumer markets. JDSU is a leading provider of
communications test and measurement solutions and optical products
for telecommunications service providers, cable operators, and
network equipment manufacturers. Furthermore, JDSU is a leading
provider of innovative optical solutions for medical/environmental
instrumentation, semiconductor processing, display, brand
authentication, aerospace, defense and decorative applications.
