FIREBERD 8000 and FST 2310 Selected in Five-Year Contract Valued at More Than $8 Million SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; TSX: JDU) today announced that the U.S. Navy selected JDSU's industry-leading communications test platforms -- the FIREBERD 8000 and FST 2310 -- in a competitive bid for a bit error rate (BER) test solution. The contract was awarded to JDSU by the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) and is valued at more than $8 Million over the next five years. JDSU will support the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps with accurate measurement and detailed analysis of a wide variety of communication circuits including satellite and tactical links. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050913/SFTU125LOGO ) The test solutions include JDSU's Testpad 2000 user interface module, along with the FIREBERD 8000 and the FST 2310, which will perform various measurements, including BER testing on circuits that range from asynchronous/synchronous serial datacom, T1 (including ISDN primary rate interface, or, PRI), DS3 to OC-3 SONET. These units will be used to maintain reliable communication links including vital ship-to-shore communications, as well as Navy and Marine Corps tactical communications. "This contract not only allows ships, shore and Department of Defense customers to receive their equipment within a premium delivery time of sixty-to-ninety days, but also delivers significant cost savings to the Navy," said Ed Kohr, General Purpose Electronic Test Equipment (GPETE) program manager at NAVICP. "JDSU has enjoyed a long history of delivering test and management solutions to support U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps communications requirements," said Jim Coulter, director of JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement Federal business unit. "As the next generation FIREBERD analyzer, the FIREBERD 8000 with the FST 2310 ensure that the Navy and Marine Corps continue to use best-in-class tools for testing their networks." The FIREBERD 8000, which meets the United States military's performance specifications (MILSTD) MIL-188C and MIL-188-114, combines two highly successful test platforms, the JDSU FIREBERD 6000A and the JDSU Testpad 2000. It is very popular with military and other government customers for its ability to resolve issues and challenges associated with installing and maintaining datacom circuits and associated network elements. JDSU's FST-2310 TestPad helps to provision, troubleshoot, and maintain DS0 to OC-48 services and can perform, among other applications, end-to-end BER testing using a wide range of stress test patterns.
