TigerDirect®, a subsidiary of Systemax Inc. (NYSE: SYX), today
announced the grand opening of two new Illinois stores: Chicago
Midtown and Vernon Hills. The TigerDirect locations fully integrate
the Company’s powerful shopping experience, Retail 2.0®, which
combines the best of brick-and-mortar and online shopping, in
addition to TigerConnect™ centers that provide a full suite of
mobile specialty offerings.
“Reflecting our ongoing momentum, TigerDirect is extremely
pleased to have established a growing footprint in the Midwest
region,” said Robert Leeds, Vice Chairman and Interim Chief
Executive Technology Products Group, of Systemax Inc. “The Chicago
Midtown and Vernon Hills stores are well positioned to accommodate
the consumer electronics needs of shoppers throughout the Chicago
metro area, providing them with access to our incredible deals and
vast product selection. Moreover, we’re offering them the chance to
experience a completely new approach to retail shopping with Retail
2.0 and TigerConnect centers that give customers the added
convenience of a veritable wireless store in our showrooms."
The grand openings are scheduled to take place on Friday, April
29th and Saturday, April 30th, with the festivities continuing for
two subsequent Fridays and Saturdays. The events will feature
several opportunities for local shoppers, including in-store
giveaways, special offers and more. Additionally, the special
offers will extend to all Chicago-area stores, including the
Hoffman Estates, Naperville and Orland Park CompUSA powered by
TigerDirect.com stores.
The Chicago Midtown store is located at 2500 North Elston Avenue
and features 33,000 square feet of one-stop shopping conveniences.
The Vernon Hills store is located at 551 North Milwaukee and
features a 25,000 square retail store, as well as a separate 8,000
square foot business-to-business call center. The Company is
expected to hire approximately 70 full- and part-time local-area
employees across both retail store locations and about 80
business-to-business call center agents. For more details, such as
contact information and hours of operation, please visit

Both stores are Retail 2.0-enabled, empowering shoppers with the
unlimited information-gathering potential of the Internet by making
every screen throughout the store, from laptops to desktops to
HDTVs, a fully-accessible web portal. With one mouse click,
consumers can access a plethora of product information, including
specs, customer reviews, price comparisons, compatible products and
accessories, photos and videos to make fully informed purchasing
decisions. Retail 2.0 also includes custom information for each
individual store, such as how many of a specific item is in stock
at a location and at neighboring stores.
Moreover, each retail store is being outfitted with all-new
TigerConnect centers – a dedicated 500 square feet area access to
the latest wireless phones, devices and accessories, in addition to
a variety of service plans. Stocked with post-paid carrier phones,
pre-paid phones, unlocked phones and phone accessories, as well as
tablets and netbooks, the store-within-a-store is already
attracting customers with its well-known product and service
offerings, as well as its knowledgeable sales force. TigerConnect
centers are now serving three Illinois store locations – Chicago
Midtown, Vernon Hills and Orland Park.
