by Techstars begins March 9
March 9 will be Day 1 of the Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator,
Powered by Techstars. In its second year, the program is expanding
its network of health system collaborators that will offer
mentorship and possible opportunities for clinical validation or
pilot programs. Mercy Research & Development and Johns Hopkins
are the two most recent additions to the health systems network,
Sprint (NYSE: S) and Techstars announced today. They join the two
previously announced collaborators, University of Kansas Medical
Center and Providence Health & Services.
The Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator, Powered by Techstars, is a
three-month, immersive, mentor-driven program for startups. Ten
participating companies, which will be announced on March 9, will
relocate to Kansas City for the duration of the program to build
and strengthen their businesses. Each company receives up to
$120,000 in funding. In 2015, Techstars is adding a
first-of-its-kind equity back guarantee.
During the inaugural program in 2014, the 10 mobile
health-related startups traveled to Kansas City from across the
country and Australia. Two of the companies, FitBark and
Symptom.ly, now have made Kansas City their permanent home,
bringing even more talent to the burgeoning technology scene in
Kansas City.
“We have the advantage of experience from the inaugural program
in 2014, plus new health care system collaborators and mentors to
make the Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator even stronger,” said
Kevin McGinnis, vice president of Pinsight Media+, powered by
Sprint. “Our team is ready to dive into our second accelerator
program less than one month from now with 10 new mobile health
companies.”

companies valuable opportunities for potential pilots and clinical
validation, and access to some of the top experts in health care.
We're honored to work with such world-class organizations and can't
wait to see the benefits resulting from our startups working with
them."
“Mercy has a rich history of innovation, and the team at Mercy
Research & Development is a crucial piece of that innovative
culture,” said Keela Davis, director of Mercy Research &
