David M. Powers Named Vice President of State Government Relations for Reynolds American Inc.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reynolds
American Inc. recently named David M. Powers vice president of
state government relations. In his new role, Powers is responsible
for formulating and advocating RAI's legislative, regulatory and
public policy positions with state and local governments. He
supervises six state government relations regional directors in his
position. In announcing Powers' promotion, Tommy Payne, executive
vice president of public affairs for RAI, said, "We are fortunate
to have someone as capable and experienced as David Powers to take
over state government relations responsibilities that are critical
to the future of RAI and its operating companies." Powers joined
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1996 and has been responsible for
state government relations in nine western states as well as, more
recently, in nine states in the Northeast. Prior to joining the
company, Powers was regional director of state government relations
for the Smokeless Tobacco Council in Washington, D.C. Earlier in
his career, Powers served in the administration of President George
H.W. Bush as a senior Intergovernmental Affairs officer. A native
of St. Pauls, N.C., Powers received a bachelor's degree in 1983
from North Carolina State University and a master's degree in
