- Event commemorates OfficeMax's new store openings and redesigned stores in Denver - NAPERVILLE, Ill., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- If you could rid your life of one bad influence or item, what would it be? AFC West Football Rivals Memorabilia, Twinkies, Old Riding Lawn Mower or a Car Door that represents a recent break-in? OfficeMax is giving Denver residents the opportunity to put their past behind them when it brings the World's Largest Rubberband Ball to town on Wednesday, Aug. 22. OfficeMax will hold a crushing ceremony outside of Denver Pavilions, 500 -- 16th Street on Glenarm, at 11:30 a.m. Last week Denverites were encouraged to submit stories about the items they would like to see destroyed and explain the significance of their choices. With help from OfficeMax's corporate icon -- the Rubberband Ball -- participants can get a fresh start for fall while spectators will enjoy the demonstration of the ball's impressive crushing power. The event is a part of the World's Largest Rubberband Ball's tour to the greater Denver area. Residents can see the ball at events celebrating the grand opening or remodeling of four local OfficeMax stores in August, including: -- Friday, August 17 at 6492 South Parker Road in Aurora from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. -- Saturday, August 18 at 5650 Allen Way, Suite 110 in Castle Rock from 10:00 a.m. - noon -- Sunday, August 19 at 343 South Broadway in Denver from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. -- Thursday, August 23 at 7980 West Alameda Avenue in Lakewood from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Consumers are invited to be photographed next to the mammoth ball -- which stands more than five feet tall, with a circumference of 19 feet and is comprised of approximately 175,000 rubber bands -- and visit the newly renovated OfficeMax stores. The ball will also greet visitors at the Taste of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival in Denver. "Just as Denver OfficeMax stores are starting over with a brand-new, user-friendly design, we hope local residents will enjoy the opportunity to create a new beginning for themselves -- with a little help from a 4,594-pound rubber band ball," said Ryan Vero, OfficeMax's executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. "And whether they're preparing for a new school year or just getting organized at the office, we hope the World's Largest Rubberband Ball will encourage Denverites to experience the benefits of the new stores for themselves." The new OfficeMax store design allows customers to try out the latest electronics showcased in a central technology hub, or scoop up basics such as paper clips, pens and rubber bands from brightly colored bulk bins. Soft lighting, a soothing color palette of golds, oranges, greens and blues, and rich textures set the tone for the rebranded stores, which offer WiFi Internet access. Customers can download professional documents and have them printed at the OfficeMax ImPress(TM) department, which provides high-tech digital printing and copying, binding, finishing and laminating.
