Contract handset manufacturer Foxconn International Holdings Ltd. (2038.HK) said Thursday it expects to report a significantly narrower loss for the first half from a year earlier, due mainly to a reduction in impairment loss and improved gross profit margins.

Foxconn International, which makes mobile phones for companies such as Motorola Solutions Inc. (MSI) and Nokia Corp. (NOK), posted a net loss of US$142.6 million for the six months ended June 30, 2010, wider than the net loss of US$18.7 million in the corresponding period of 2009.

Foxconn is a unit of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (2317.TW), the world's largest contract electronics maker by revenue and producer of many Apple Inc. (AAPL) products.
