Customers today are experiencing an explosion in the sheer volume
of data and information like never before. From managing massive
amounts of data generated from big-bandwidth applications to
real-time analysis of complex datasets, customers require storage
products and solutions that are optimized to help them address
these unique applications. NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced a
portfolio of products and solutions built on the NetApp® E-Series
Platform to enable customers and partners to effectively tackle
these new and growing storage requirements. The E-Series Platform
leverages technology gained from NetApp's completed purchase of the
Engenio external storage systems business from LSI Corporation
(NYSE: LSI) and enables NetApp to enter emerging markets.
NetApp E5400 Storage System The NetApp
E5400 storage system, which is available for OEMs, is a
sixth-generation storage system that delivers high-class
performance optimal for big-bandwidth applications, extreme storage
density, and exceptional uptime. This unique combination makes the
E5400 an ideal solution for high-performance environments with
massive amounts of critical data and computing demands that require
enterprise-class scalability and reliability. Benefits include the
following:
- The E5400 provides OEMs with a proven architecture, with over
300,000 E-Series systems shipped and a history of more than 20
years of design knowledge and firmware development.
- The E5400's compact 4U form factor integrates controllers and
drives to maximize storage density while reducing operational
expenditures.
- The E5400's fully redundant design and online administration
enable continuous high-speed data access.
"NetApp is a storage-focused company, which enables us to make
R&D investments in advanced storage technologies and existing
product enhancements much faster and more effectively than other
vendors," said Joel Reich, vice president and GM of the Array
Products Business Unit, NetApp. "With the E-Series Platform now
part of the NetApp portfolio, we will continue to build upon the
existing product road map and engineering innovations to deliver to
our OEMs a high-speed, cost-effective, scalable, and reliable
storage platform to help them address their customers' growing
high-performance workload requirements."
NetApp Technology Enables Improvement of
Battlefield Intelligence with New Full-Motion Video Storage
Solution Full-motion video is fast becoming a tool widely used
and leveraged by federal government agencies to improve operational
and intelligence support on the battlefield. Full-motion video
data, which is gathered from unmanned vehicles and satellites,
provides mission-critical information that enables better
decision-making in environments in which every second counts. The
adoption of this technology is expected to increase over the next
several years as federal customers capture and store multiple
streams of high-definition digital video more frequently, placing
an enormous strain on IT infrastructures. NetApp today unveiled a
Full-Motion Video Storage Solution built on the E-Series Platform,
enabling government agencies to more effectively take advantage of
full-motion video.
"The market for full-motion video and digital video surveillance
is growing at an accelerated pace and is primarily being driven by
government demand," said Tom Coughlin, president, Coughlin
Associates. "In particular, agencies within the federal government
are looking for advanced storage solutions to help them manage and
capture an incredible amount of data in an efficient manner. To
help them address this challenge, agencies are turning to IT
vendors, such as NetApp, who can offer them unique solutions that
meet their specific and critical video capture needs."
"As a leading and trusted storage provider to the federal
government, we have unique insight into some new use cases around
full-motion video," said Mark Weber, president of U.S. Public
Sector, NetApp. "The convergence of warfare
technology, richer media types, huge datasets, and large-scale data
processing is creating new challenges for our customers in terms of
how they manage and capture all of this video information. NetApp
is providing the federal government with a storage solution that is
purpose built to handle the unique requirements of full-motion
video and is preconfigured for easy deployment, enabling federal
agencies to make better and faster mission-critical decisions in
the field."
The solution leverages the new NetApp E5400, part of the
E-Series Platform, and is combined with the StorNext® data
management solution from Quantum®, making it ideal for
big-bandwidth requirements for full-motion video capture and
analysis.
NetApp Offers Hadoop Storage Solution to
Accelerate Adoption of Big-Analytics Applications Business and
IT leaders face significant opportunities and challenges in
analyzing growing volumes of data. Traditional technologies are
optimized for business data and transaction processing. Hadoop was
designed to enable real-time or near-real-time data analysis and is
an innovative platform to help businesses focus on managing and
deriving business benefits from larger and more complex datasets.
NetApp today announced a new solution built on the E-Series
Platform that enables speed of deployment and simplifies
manageability of Hadoop infrastructure, allowing customers to
deploy a solution in hours versus weeks and to dynamically expand
to petabyte scale.
The E-Series Platform provides an optimized, purpose-built
storage solution to address various big-analytics applications. By
simplifying and packaging the deployment of Hadoop infrastructure,
NetApp accelerates the time to value and enables customers to scale
their deployments more practically and predictably. Working with an
ecosystem of partners, NetApp continues its commitment to industry
standards and open sources, including the Apache distribution of
Hadoop.
"NetApp has a strong history of leadership in supporting new
technology innovations. Hadoop democratizes access to previously
untapped data and information," said Rich Clifton, senior vice
president at NetApp. "Our solution allows enterprise adopters to
gain business advantage by analyzing vast quantities of information
in real time. Customers can deploy the solution in hours versus
weeks and scale predictably and simply."
NetApp customers are already moving toward Hadoop deployments to
address big-analytics problems. A Fortune 100 technology and
finance company uses Hadoop for a range of analytics to gain
increased insights into business-critical data to understand
customer buying behavior and offer more targeted products and
services. A government intelligence agency required the ability to
provide users with a connected system for intelligence that
improved collaboration, discovery, and correlation analysis for
increased national security. Hadoop solutions provided an
intelligence system that consolidated data from disparate systems
to mitigate the complexity and address the scale of this class of
problem.
The Hadoop storage solution is a preconfigured and modular
offering built on the currently shipping NetApp E2600. Part of the
E-Series Platform, the solution has a base configuration of 16 to
32 nodes. System sizing and validation eliminate the guesswork and
allow customers to deploy Hadoop clusters in hours versus
weeks.
Availability and Pricing Availability and
pricing for the E5400 are available through NetApp's OEM partners.

simplified sales model, enabling the solution to be delivered and
implemented faster and more efficiently for federal government
customers. Learn more about the new Full-Motion Video Solution and
