LSI MegaRAID(R) positioned for continued market leadership as future SAS technology generations launch in entry- to enterprise-server platforms MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Corporation (NYSE:LSI) today announced that market research firm Gartner has ranked LSI as the worldwide leader in host bus RAID controller unit shipments for 2007. According to the latest data released by the firm, LSI led the market based on the strength of its MegaRAID(R) SAS unit shipments. SAS shipments accounted for slightly more than 76 percent of the company's total MegaRAID unit shipments for the year.[1] "We believe LSI's leading position in host bus RAID controllers is a strong indicator that our robust SAS portfolio and focused innovations are resonating with customers and translating into growth opportunities," said Phil Bullinger, executive vice president and general manager, Engenio Storage Group, LSI. "As the industry begins the transition to 6Gb/s SAS solutions, LSI is well positioned for continued SAS market segment leadership with our 6Gb/s SAS RAID-On-Chip solution having already been selected by six tier-one OEMs to enable their next-generation entry- to enterprise-server platforms." The report also ranked LSI as the worldwide unit share leader in host bus SAS RAID controllers for the "non-captive" or third-party enabling vendor category. LSI led the category for the current reporting period -- with more than twice the share of the closest competitor.[1] Gartner defines the third-party enabling vendor market category as companies that design, manufacture and sell host bus RAID controllers for integration into computing and storage platforms manufactured by other vendors and system integrators. RAID is an architecture that increases performance and protection against drive failures by virtualizing a set of disk drives into a single logical drive. Host bus RAID controllers come in three forms: host bus RAID controller add-in cards, RAID-on-Chip (ROC) and RAID-on-Motherboard (ROMB). Since the inception of SAS, LSI has delivered market-leading products across its portfolio of controller ICs, expanders, host bus and MegaRAID adapters, ROMB solutions and storage systems. By offering best-in-class SAS technologies combined with a 25-year track record of hardware, firmware and validation competencies, LSI is the silicon-to-systems supplier of choice for OEMs that want to deliver a broad set of storage solutions.
