Harris Corporation Announces TRuepoint(TM) New Generation Microwave Technology to be Implemented in Asia-Pacific Indonesia's Centralink Selects TRuepoint(TM) Microwave Radio for Kalimantan Islands project SINGAPORE, CommunicAsia 2004, June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading global provider of wireless equipment and services, today announced that its next-generation microwave radio, TRuepoint 5000, has been selected as the communications backbone for a project underway by Centralink, a leading wireless systems integrator in Indonesia. The sale marks the first purchase in Asia of the innovative radio, which offers versatility in terms of cost and capability -- and can meet the requirements of networks throughout the world. "We selected TRuepoint because it delivers an effective one-two punch with its flexible upgrade capabilities and its ability to perform over-the-water transmission," said Mr. Lukmanto, technical director for Centralink. "It also provides our customers with a multi-service platform that is cost-effective, expandable and adaptable as their network requirements change." Centralink will apply TRuepoint's SDH and PDH capabilities to create a communications backbone for a project in the Sumatera and Kalimantan Islands of Indonesia. "The selection of Harris TRuepoint by Centralink represents the next- generation expansion they anticipate in their network," said Darryl Parker, vice president of international sales for Harris' Microwave Communications Division. "TRuepoint is a reflection of how Harris is fully committed to meeting the needs of Asia-Pacific where there is immediate demand for products that can quickly establish and expand high-performance, wireless networks." TRuepoint represents a major breakthrough in development for Harris Microwave -- the largest provider of microwave systems in North America. Providing SDH and PDH in a single platform, TRuepoint meets the current and future needs of all network operators, including mobile, private network, government and access service providers. The unique architecture of the core platform reduces both capital expenditures and life-cycle costs while meeting all international and North American standards. The wide range of capacities, interfaces, modulation schemes, frequency and channel plans, and transmit power levels are made available to meet the requirements of any network in the world. Key technological advances of TRuepoint include its ability to migrate from 4 to 180 Mbits/s on one radio, and its ability to support all operating frequency bands from 6 to 38 GHz and network interfaces for E rates, T rates, STM1, OC3, 10BASE-T and 100BASE-T. Internal network multiplexing capabilities support circuit grooming and add/drop multiplexing for improved efficiency and reduced network cost. The mixed network interfaces are particularly valuable for CDMA, GSM and GPRS operators who plan to overlay 3G IP networks. TRuepoint is available in stand-alone and fully protected configurations. For all operators, TRuepoint provides the ability to change network interfaces and increase transmission capacity without changing outdoor equipment or indoor chassis. The availability of a wide range of capacities and frequencies is a function of TRuepoint's programmable radio design, which is comprised of a universal core platform architecture and selectable options for interfaces, capacities and frequencies. TRuepoint's outdoor unit is capacity independent, its indoor unit is frequency independent, and the modem can be programmed to match almost any frequency plan with modulation rates up to 256 QAM. Additional key features of TRuepoint include advanced FEC (forward error correction) schemes for bandwidth and system gain optimization, automatic transmit power control, reverse channel switching, built-in self diagnostics, embedded SNMP (simple network management protocol), dynamic bandwidth allocation and many additional options. TRuepoint began shipping in the first quarter of 2004. To learn more about TRuepoint and see a live demonstration, please visit the Harris booth (Stand #5L1-01, Hall 6) at the CommunicAsia Show in Singapore, which will be held June 15 to June 18. Harris representatives will be available between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. About Harris Harris Microwave Communications Division, one of five divisions within Harris Corporation, is the largest supplier of microwave systems in North America and a leading supplier worldwide.
