Harris Corporation Introduces 'Paperless Chart Recorder' New Remote
Access Link Monitoring and Diagnostic Tool is a First in the
Industry ATLANTA, March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CTIA 2004,
Booth #3557 -- Harris Corporation , a leading global provider of
wireless infrastructure equipment and services, has released a new
software-based microwave link chart recorder that completely
eliminates the need for external hardware chart recorders, BER test
sets (BERTS), and other test and instrumentationequipment required
when installing and maintaining microwave links. Harris' new
"paperless chart recorder" -- PCR -- is a powerful diagnostic tool
that provides numerous benefits in monitoring and maintaining
microwave links remotely, which can save operators thousands of
dollars in equipment, leasing, engineering, and travel costs.
Harris' PCR system is unique in the market and fully supports
Harris' leading digital radio systems, Constellation(R),
MegaStar(R) 155, and TRuepoint(TM). The system uploads historical
link analog and alarm data from any site in the system, stores it
for the quick and complete analysis of link performance and
availability over many days to several years, and displays it on a
single computer screen expandable from an All Data presentation to
any 1- or 2-day, 1- or 3-hour, or 1- or 15-minute period. Data
recorded includes local and GMT dates and times precisely aligned
to each occurrence, continuous main and diversity RF receiver
signal level (RSL) fade chart recordings within +/-2 dB accuracy,
all individual main and diversity receiver alarms, all 1+1 and 1:N
receiver and transmitter switching events, and all DS1, E1, OC-3,
STM-1, etc., errored second and sync loss (SES, LOF) outage events.
"We are very pleased to make the Harris PCR available to our
customers," said Guy Campbell, president of Harris Microwave
Communications Division. "The PCR is a remarkable and powerful tool
that provides our customers with performance data history and
real-time monitoring capability for every Harris radio in their
network-a capability totally unique in the industry." Harris PCR
provides tremendous cost savings and advantages over traditional
hardware chart recorders and BERTS instrumentation that must be
deployed separately and manually harvested for data. Harris PCR
allows for complete remote setup and access thereby saving, in
addition to capital equipment expense, a tremendous amount of data
collection and diagnostic labor and travel costs. Harris PCR
consists of two main parts: 1) The History Data Loader that
remotely uploads all stored link data in each direction of the
path, and 2) the History Data Viewer that conveniently displays
these collected analog and alarm data on a single screen which has
powerful search and navigation tools to facilitate exacting
analysis by transmission engineers. Harris PCR can be installed as
a standalone application on Windows NT/2000/XP operating systems or
can be integrated into the NetBoss network management system or
StarView element manager system. Connectivity to Harris radios for
PCR data collection can be locally or remotely achieved through the
Harris SCAN network or through standard SNMP. About Harris Harris
