Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications
and information technology company, has received a $15 million
order from the U.S. Air Force for additional Falcon III®
AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radio systems. The AN/PRC-117G will
provide Air Force personnel with next-generation tactical
communication capabilities for a range of applications, such as
precision air support. Harris received this order in the first
quarter of fiscal 2012.
"The AN/PRC-117G manpack provides Air Force personnel with
enhanced voice, video and wideband data communications,’’ said Dana
Mehnert, group president, Harris RF Communications. “This radio
delivers assured access to command and control resources,
supporting new applications such as fires coordination and close
air support. Combat proven and upgradeable, the AN/PRC-117G is the
solution to the Air Force’s current and future needs — on the
ground and in the air.”
The AN/PRC-117G is deployed by all branches of the U.S.
Department of Defense (DoD) and provides unprecedented situational
awareness on the battlefield by delivering critical real-time
information to warfighters on the move. Software-defined and
upgradeable, the radio enables mobile ad-hoc networking, voice and
high-bandwidth data applications supporting applications such as
streaming video, collaborative chat and secure network
connectivity.
The AN/PRC-117G is a NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio
system. With its fully integrated and NSA-certified High Assurance
Internet Protocol Equipment (HAIPE) networking encryption, the
AN/PRC-117G provides the highest level of information assurance
connectivity to tactical units.
More than 16,000 AN/PRC-117G radios are deployed by all branches
of the U.S. Department of Defense, federal agencies, and key allies
such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, other NATO countries
and Australia. The development of the AN/PRC-117G manpack radio has
followed the U.S. Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program’s
Enterprise Business Model (EBM). The EBM encourages companies to
develop next-generation solutions in tactical communications using
their own investment capital. In doing so, the EBM encourages
competition, increases innovation, reduces costs and speeds
