Next-generation BID 2370 Device, Developed under UK Ministry of Defence CHIM(P) Programme, Provides Voice and Data Information Assurance ROCHESTER, N.Y., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has received certification from Communications - Electronics Security Group (CESG) for a next-generation programmable encryption device that secures voice and data to the highest levels of information security. CESG is the information assurance arm of the United Kingdom. CESG has determined that the Harris BID-2370 cryptographic modernization solution meets requirements up through and including the level of UK Top Secret-Eyes Only. BID-2370 is an End Cryptographic Unit (ECU) with an embedded Core Cryptographic Module (CCM) that was developed as part of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) Common-good High-grade INFOSEC Module (Programmable), or CHIM(P) programme. The CESG certification covers both components and provides for future re-use of the stand-alone CCM module, which performs a majority of the ECU's cryptographic functions in a wide array of product applications. "Certification of the BID-2370 allows Harris to expand the most complete line of network encryptors, covering applications from the military edge to the backbone. This product adds to our existing SecNet (R) product line and provides rigorous information security for a broad range of applications," said Richard Rzepkowski, Vice President of Communication Security Products, Harris RF Communications. "Certification of BID-2370 also provides the UK armed forces with its first high-grade reprogrammable and reconfigurable encryption product that supports both legacy and modern sovereign network applications." The BID-2370 offers high-grade programmable encryption, which allows new cryptographic algorithms/features to be added over time without the need to change hardware. It also allows a specific set of cryptographic algorithms to be programmed for a specific purpose. Programmable cryptography is a key requirement of the UK cryptographic modernization initiative to support enhanced warfighter capability. Because BID-2370 is reconfigurable, it will support legacy serial networks (such as BID-1650), as well as modern packet-based systems such as High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryption (HAIPE) in the same box. It was also designed with enough processing capacity to support future cryptographic and networking features, including the next-generation, evolving HAIPE and Link Encryption Family (LEF) interoperability standards. The BID-2370 ECU was developed to support immediate UK needs, but has also been released to the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, as well as various NATO countries on a case-by-case basis and with the appropriate certification and permissions.
